I knew in the beginning stages of wedding planning that I wanted Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 as the altar backdrop, and the backdrop I envisioned would cover the height of our ceremony space. I did a lot of research and I could not find anyone that offered such a tall decor piece! So, I made it myself! It came out to be 22 ft. long! While writing the script, it was spread out on my living room floor and took up the entire room! I had to keep rolling and unrolling to create space for it!
I decided to write the script for all of my decor to keep it consistent. I used mirrors that I already owned for the seating chart and one of our welcome signs. The 8 ft. wooden sign at the entrance of the farm was purchased from Lowe’s!
Our seating chart is another favorite! Instead of using table numbers, each table is a city we have visited! Instead of Table 1, 2, 3, we listed places such as “Turks & Caicos”, “Nashville”, and “Harker’s Island”!
Another decision I made from the beginning was that I wanted a live painter during our wedding ceremony. I’ve always had a love for art and this painting would mean just as much to me as the photos! I hired Brittany Rawls Art to spend our day with us – and y’all, I am so in love with our painting. Her attention to detail is phenomenal, we can name every guest pictured! You can even see the sequins on my Mama’s dress! Our painting still hangs above our mantle and it will be cherished for a lifetime!
My fur coat was a gift from my Dad. He found it at an antique store the week of my wedding! It was perfect! I had been searching for a real fur for weeks leading up to the wedding. When my dad showed up with it, I could have cried! It was the exact color I wanted – and it even had POCKETS! The brand is called “French Room” and some can still be found on eBay!
Our cake table was a HUGE hit! The buffet sideboard actually came from my own house, but I originally found it on Craigslist! She has since been a showstopper in other weddings as well!
Cody and I decided to have a pie bar with all of our favorites, including Mema’s Ten-layer chocolate cake & pineapple cake! We also had southern staples such as pecan pie, strawberry pie, and apple pie! Everyone loved it and there wasn’t a single dessert left at the end of the night!
One of our favorite gifts was from Colton & Harris. They made us custom cornhole boards with our wedding crest!
Our first dance song was “Making Me Look Good Again” by Drake White. Cody and his Mom danced to “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw, and my Dad and I danced to “Your Daddy’s Boots” by Dustin Lynch. All these songs bring me right back to that day and it completely fills my heart!
We followed southern tradition and buried a bottle of Bourbon for our wedding! The tradition states that if you bury a bottle of Bourbon at your ceremony site exactly one month before your wedding date, it will not rain! I am here to tell you that it must have worked, because we had nothing but SUNSHINE all day! Yes, it was chilly, but I was so blessed to have had such a gorgeous day!
Our honeymoon was spent at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. We LOVED it, and I highly recommend it if you also love the NC mountains!
